I am an Indian filmmaker and cinematographer. My work explores themes of memory, place and identity, with a focus on women and children. Most recently, I worked as a creative producer and editor on 'Tiffin', a short fiction film about the alienation felt by Muslim children in an increasingly right-wing India. I helmed the camera for ‘Hotel Naaz’, a short documentary about a third-generation Muslim Woman, who unwittingly rediscovers her relationship with her grandfather as she traces the history of their family hotel- Naaz Hotel and Purani Dilli. Other works include ‘Cities and Lovers’ and ‘Hum Jinns’, which have been video art projects on exploring the concept of space, love and personal identities in the changing landscape of urban life. The dawn of the digital era has passed. We’re getting close to mid-morning now. Content is king and video is par for the course for brands, advertisers, media and publishers alike. The TV commercial as we’ve known it is no longer the only show in town. The emergence of new platforms and evolution of consumption habits has led to the development of a range of video types- long, short and mid form. As the number of pieces of content a brand produces in a year goes from one, two, five or eight to a few dozen or in some cases, even a few hundred, the shelf life of each piece of content goes down. I have directed and produced documentaries on topics ranging from sex trafficking along the Nepal-India border, child marriage, legalisation of marijuana, gender-based violence against Dalit women, to profiling ex-gangsters, illegal diamond mining in a national park, forced hysterectomies and covering the farmers' protest.
