His documentary short, Piano Craftman, was awarded Best Director at the 2020 Madrid Art Film Festival and will screen at the BIG SKY Documentary Festival in 2021. In 2020, Scott worked as a cinematographer across the Netflix series (Un)Well and Hulu’s Taste the Nation. Scott was also a Director of Photography on Netflix's Explained and in 2019 he was the Director of Photography on Whiter Shade of Terror, a film about the the global spread of anti-muslim rhetoric and an increasingly violent white supremacy movement, which aired in 28 countries. I started my career in filmmaking working on independent films in Seattle in the 1990s. I joined I.A.T.S.E Local 488 as a grip and worked on features and television series including DISCLOSURE, NORTHERN EXPOSURE, and others. In 1997, I left the film industry to attend graduate school and then teach filmmaking at Emerson College and Ithaca College while still working on independent films. In 2010, I was a delegate to Poland for the American Documentary Showcase with my short film NOTES ON LIBERTY. From 2013 to 2018, I was one of the primary filmmakers for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology where I shot and produced numerous short-form documentaries on birds and their habitats. I was the Director of Photography for the award-winning noir web series THE CHANTICLEER and in 2017 lived in Vienna, Austria as a Fulbright Scholar. I hold an MFA in Film and Video Production from the University of Iowa Graduate College.
